The 4th SPX International Colloquium, held from 10th to 12th October at the prestigious Palais du Pharo in Marseille, has successfully concluded its three days of intense debates, knowledge sharing, and discussions focusing on the pivotal role of the patient experience in shaping healthcare services.
This global event drew the participation of 317 attendees from various medical disciplines and represented 10 countries: France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Italy, Spain, Monaco, Portugal, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The programme featured a total of 83 speakers, promoting the exchange of perspectives and best practices among participants with diverse backgrounds. These professionals hailed from 111 different organisations within the healthcare sector, further enriching the discussions.
A Diverse and Enriching Program with Over 80 Speakers
Notable among the event’s highlights were four plenary sessions that resonated with participants as they delved into critical subjects related to the patient experience and its impact on healthcare services.
Emmanuelle Hoche from Unicancer presided over the first plenary session, titled “La mise en place de l’expérience patient: changement de paradigme,” bringing together esteemed speakers including Loélia Rapin (CHU Montpellier), Joan Escarrabill (Hospital Clínic de Barcelone), and Marc Noppen (UZ Brussel). They explored the challenges of implementing the patient experience, emphasizing the need for a profound cultural shift within healthcare organizations. This session underscored the pivotal role of the patient experience in dismantling organizational silos and promoting collaboration among healthcare professionals.
The second plenary session, chaired by Amah Kouevi from the Institut Français de l’Expérience Patient, addressed the theme of “The patient experience in digital care and the context of efficiency.” Speakers Joan Barrubés (ESADE), Céline Orhond (Clinique Pasteur), and Cécile Monteil (Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Paris) delved into the paradoxes of digital health and the delicate balance between personalized care and efficiency, all while preserving the crucial human element.
The third plenary session, “Shared clinical decision-making, beyond simple consent,” led by Corinne Grenier (Kedge Business School), highlighted the evolving roles of patients in clinical decision-making. Speakers including Aurélie Tinland (Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Marseille), François Blot (Institut Gustave Roussy), and Jacques Cornuz (Unisanté) explored shared clinical decision-making as a two-way process involving healthcare professionals and patients.
Lastly, the session on ‘The patient experience, innovation, and value,’ under the guidance of Emmanuelle Sarlon (FHF PACA), underscored the influence of emerging societal values on healthcare expectations. Speakers such as Eduard Portella (International Consultant), Raquel Correia (Université Paris Cité, PromTime), Guilhem Biancarelli (RESAH), and Alba Nicolás Boluda (One Clinic) explored how the patient experience can serve as a valuable catalyst for creating value by involving patients in the innovation process.
In addition to these four plenary sessions, 15 shared communication sessions took place on October 11 and 12, encompassing a wide range of topics related to the patient experience. These sessions covered subjects like the role of patients in governance structures, involving patients in the design of solutions, incorporating the patient into care pathways, living labs, cultural change, and engaging patients in facilitating the pathways of their peers, among others. These sessions brought together between one and five different contributors, offering an opportunity to share research and best practices in the field of patient experience.
On October 10, during the pre-conference day, five workshops were also offered for participants interested in delving deeper into specific aspects of the patient experience. These workshops were led by experts in the field and provided an opportunity for constructive discussions in small groups.
A Friendly Event Focused on Innovation
The event also included a convivial networking aperitif at the end of the day on 11th October, providing participants with a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and strengthen professional relationships.
In addition to this rich programme, the Innovation Area was a vital component of the Colloquium. This area allowed participants to connect with companies and institutions actively working to enhance the patient experience through the development of innovative solutions. The stands were accessible throughout the two days of the Colloquium, offering participants the opportunity to explore the latest technological advancements and innovative initiatives aimed at optimising healthcare.
The following institutions and companies participated in the Innovation Area: ANAP, EuroMedi International, Xploro, EntendsMoi, Comunicare, Effixis, Tuito, MyHospitel, Gratiago, and Mobydi.
